The Sarasota Choral Society is a Non-Profit 501 (c) (3) charitable organization. As a Non-Profit, all monies generated are fed back into the organization to pay the artists, production and promotion of our events, and our scholarship and community outreach programs. The Sarasota Choral Society is tremendously proud of the fact that we have been able to present major productions of sacred and secular music for more than 75 years supported primarily through membership dues and ticket sales.
Putting on a production as large and complex as Messiah is not an inexpensive undertaking. The soloists, accompanists, orchestra, and Artistic Director are all paid professional artists. Venues in Sarasota and Bradenton are becoming more expensive and less available over time, and the basic costs of operation, supplies and services like printing and advertising are also rising at an alarming pace.
All of the “behind-the-scenes” work is done by volunteers out of their homes. The Sarasota Choral Society has no paid staff nor does it maintain expensive office space. We are eternally grateful for the selfless support of our members, event organizers, ushers, front and back stage and our Board, as the choir would not be able to function without it.
The Sarasota Choral Society provides many benefits to many groups of people. Patrons are able to enjoy and be uplifted by one of the largest and longest running productions of sacred classical music in the Sarasota area with orchestra, professional soloists, and a volunteer chorus with upwards of 150 voices.
Through its Community Outreach programs, The Sarasota Choral Society has supported other charitable and choral organizations such as The Manger, a local Christian organization that provides food and other services to those in need, and the Sarasota Boys Choir and Sarasota Girls Choir. We are currently providing financial assistance to members of Sarasota Young Voices (SYV) who might not otherwise be able to participate. You can read more about our Community Outreach programs here.
